The Course
The course starts and finishes at riverside Rotary Park. All races begin by crossing the Rio Grande on foot and following a dirt road for about 1.5 miles. Runners then turn onto a sandy/rocky arroyo, climbing 500 feet to an Aid Station.
- 10 km: This is a loop with one out-and-back section. Runners check in at the Aid Station and descend 500 feet back to the finish line.
- Half Marathon: After the initial climb, runners embark on the 8-mile Hidden Valley Loop. This remote section involves an additional 1,400 feet of elevation gain, featuring red rocks and long views. The total vertical gain is approximately 1,900 feet.
- 50 km: Runners continue past the Aid Station to a ridgeline, descend through hills, pass by the old Blackjack Mine, and complete a long ascent back to the Aid Station. They then run three revolutions of the Hidden Valley Loop before descending to the finish. The total vertical gain is approximately 5,200 feet.
The terrain is a combination of jeep roads and single-track trails that meander through scenic arroyos in the foothills of the Caballo Mountains. The course passes old mining sites.
