Trail of the Kings - Lake Toba by UTMB
The Trail of the Kings is an off-road running event takes place on Samosir Island in the Lake Toba region. The courses are set within the landscape of a massive volcanic eruption site, featuring a mix of rugged terrain, dense forests, and heritage sites. The event is inspired by the history of the native Bataknese people and their role as leaders who established communities by navigating the hills and valleys of this region.
The event offers several race distances for different participation levels:
- 100 km (Caldera Crown)
- 60 km (Ultimate Expedition)
- 28 km (King's Ascent)
- 10 km (Legacy Dash)
- 5 km (Legend Leap)
- Kids race
Participants in the 100 km, 60 km, and 28 km categories can earn Running Stones, which contribute to the UTMB World Series qualification system. The 100 km route is the longest option available, leading runners through diverse natural landscapes and sites of cultural significance. The shorter courses, including the 5 km, 10 km, and dedicated children's race, provide options with lower mileage requirements.
The event is situated at Lake Toba, which is recognized as the site of the largest volcanic eruption in the world. Registration is open to the public, with different categories grouped by distance and technical requirements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
