Tough Topanga is a trail running event at Topanga State Park in Topanga, California. The program includes multiple distances, a non timed hiking option, and a kids race. All SoCalTrail events are CUPLESS.
- 15k Trail (9.3 miles, 1,713 ft vert)
- 10k Trail (6.2 miles, 1,117 ft vert)
- Hiker's Delight non timed (5.8 miles, 1,107 ft vert)
- Jr Kids 1k (0.66 miles, 152 ft vert) under 13 only
Courses use fire roads and singletrack and pass oak forests, chaparral, sandstone cliffs, valley vistas, and views of the San Gabriel mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The 15k follows the Garapito singletrack and the historic Turkey Trot route with long climbs, switchbacks, and a final mile descent. The 10k follows the classic groomed fire road with a high point near mile 2.3 and a downhill finish. Aid stations are located at several mile markers on both the 10k and 15k courses.
The event features chip timing, same-day results, marked courses, staffed aid stations, on-course medical support, finish line announcers, a festival with a beer garden and breakfast tacos, certified sports massage, and next-day race photography. Prize purses include a $2,000 10k purse, a $1,000 15k purse, and a $500 Downhill Mile bonus. Free off-site parking and shuttles run on Topanga Canyon Boulevard; the race site is at Trippet Ranch, Entrada Road. Limited cell service is noted.
