Tough Oaks OCR (Obstacle Course Run)

Newport, United States • 19 Sep 2026

Event Overview

Tough Oaks OCR (Obstacle Course Run) takes place at Camp Albemarle in Newport, North Carolina. The event features a 5k course designed with over 20 stations focused on strength, endurance, and agility. The route consists of flat terrain that traverses open fields, woodland areas, and shallow water sections.

Course Information

Participants can choose between two distinct formats for the 5k distance:

  • Elite Heat (timed): A competitive format where runners must complete all required obstacles and penalties.
  • Open Race (untimed): A non-competitive format with scaling options for obstacles and penalties.

Obstacles and Safety

The course includes specific tasks such as a 200-foot walking lunge. In the Elite Heat, failure to complete an obstacle results in a 20-burpee penalty before proceeding. While obstacle supervisors are stationed throughout the course to provide directions and explanations, they do not provide individual supervision for children. Professional medical services (EMS) are present on-site during the race for safety.

Additional Activities

A pre-race packet pickup event occurs the evening before the run at the venue. This gathering includes a course preview, live music, yard games, food trucks, and sponsor booths. During the race, starts are staggered to maintain flow and prevent congestion at the obstacle stations. Spectators are permitted to gather near the finish line to support participants.
