Thoresby Park Longhorn Trail Event 2026

The Longhorn Trail event takes place at Thoresby Park, Newark, on 18 April 2026. The estate covers over 1,000 acres of parkland and includes a 17th century mansion, an art collection, and wildlife such as wild deer and long-horned cattle. The venue postcode is NG22 9EP.

Routes cover several distances and age categories:

  • Family 2km, suitable for ages 5+, no canicross
  • 5km, suitable for ages 11+
  • 10km, suitable for ages 15+
  • Half marathon, suitable for ages 17+

The estate is fairly flat, and the 5km and 10km routes are noted as appropriate for first-time trail runners or those moving up from Parkrun. The event is canicross friendly except for the 2km family run; runners may take up to two controlled dogs and canicross entries have a separate start. Nordic walkers are welcome on any distance.

Live chip timing will be provided by Timing Up North. All finishers receive Wild Deer merchandise, an event medal, and a snack. A bespoke event T-shirt is available for an additional £12. A 24 hour obstacle course at Belvoir Castle on 27 and 28 June 2026, run as repeated five mile loops with named obstacles such as Arctic Enema, Electroshock Therapy and Well Swung. Individual, relay, pit crew and brunch options are offered.

A local fell and fun run in Bakewell with races from a 1.6 km kids run up to a 10.4 km fell race. All finishers receive a Bakewell Pudding and the event is organised by Bakewell Athletics Club.

An evening trail race in Shirtcliffe Woods organised by Handsworth Roadhogs, run over two laps totalling 5.25 miles (8.5 km). Entry is online only with fees of £6 for UKA affiliated and £8 for unaffiliated runners.
