The Trailway Trail Race : Lake Somerville State Park, Birch Creek Unit
The Trailway Trail Race takes place in the Birch Creek Unit of Lake Somerville State Park and uses trails that run along the lake shoreline and through canopied forest. The route features a mix of exposed lakeside sections and shaded tunnel-like forest, with gently rolling terrain, some hard-packed rooted sections, and areas of sand or loose soil. The event uses a lollipop-style loop for most distances; the start and finish are located at a grassy lakeside spot near the race hub.
Distances offered:
- 50 km
- 26.2 miles

Course markings include caution tape, yellow arrows, and frequent confidence markers so participants do not need to navigate with a map. Aid station support is provided on course; races are cupless so participants should bring their own cup or bottle. Drop bags are allowed at aid stations except Wolf Pond. The ruck division requires mandatory weighed packs with specific minimums based on body weight, and a pre-race weigh in.
The weekend also includes a Friday night pre-race tailgate at the race hub with packet pickup, a cookout, a pre-race briefing, and backyard games. Park entry fees are collected during registration for one day of access; additional park fees may apply for multi-day stays. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
