Event Overview

The Sticks is a timed running event organized by Ultraverse Supplements. It offers five race durations: a 72-hour, 48-hour, 24-hour, 12-hour, and 6-hour event. Participants run as many loops as possible within their chosen time.

Course Details

The race takes place on a farmstead outside Norton, Kansas. The main course is a 3-mile loop combining mowed pasture and dirt road. The terrain features rolling hills and the pasture is described as uneven. Every six hours, participants have the option to run a 4.3-mile dirt road loop during specific one-hour windows.

Location and Amenities

The exact location is provided after registration. Norton, Kansas, is about nine miles away and offers limited amenities. On-site facilities include free camping at the start/finish area, an indoor shower, and porta-potties. There is a strict limit of one vehicle per runner, including crew.

Aid and Support

A single, well-stocked aid station at the start/finish is manned 24/7 for the duration of the events. It provides an electrolyte/carb drink and typical ultra-running food, including ramen at night and cooked meals. Participants are highly recommended to carry their own water, as bottled water will not be provided.

Rules and Participation

The event has a cap of 75 total participants. Runners can leave the course between loops but must check in with a race director before leaving and upon returning. Only full laps are counted toward mileage. Pacers are only allowed for events longer than 24 hours. All runners receive a gender-specific tank top.

Awards and Recognition

Custom belt buckles are awarded for achieving standard ultra distances (50k, 50-mile, 100k, 100 miles, 150 miles, 200 miles). Marathon medals are also available. Special awards are given to male and female winners in each duration. Achieving 200 miles in any event or 105 miles in the 24-hour event grants free entry into the 2026 Last Cowboy Backyard race.
