The MTC Severn Way Ultra

The MTC Severn Way Ultra is a point-to-point ultramarathon of 57 miles following the River Severn. The route starts at Travelodge Worcester and passes through Upton-on-Severn, Tewkesbury and Gloucester, then continues via Epney, Priding and Frampton-on-Severn to finish at Travelodge Stonehouse. Total ascent is 365 metres and total descent is 392 metres. All finishers receive a bespoke Severn Way Ultra medal and a MTC head visor. The first male and first female finishers receive bespoke trophies; a larger trophy is awarded for the full Severn Challenge. UTMB points are listed as t.b.a.

Logistics and requirements

The event is point-to-point and competitors must arrange their own travel to the start and from the finish. There are four checkpoint stations offering food with vegan and gluten free options; entrants may provide labelled food bags for checkpoints if needed. The organisers advise using the provided GPX files for navigation because parts of the Severn Path may be overgrown and routes are not always signed. Participants must maintain a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; falling below this may result in being withdrawn. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the race day. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, OS Map 150 or downloadable maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food (two chocolate bars) and a basic first aid kit. Events are cup-free so competitors should bring a reusable cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
