The Ruff - Carson, WA

The Ruff is a trail race held at the Dog Mountain Trailhead in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area near Carson, WA. The course is fully on single track and starts and finishes at the trailhead.

The course distance is 7 miles. Runners ascend roughly 3 miles with about 3000 ft of elevation gain to the summit of Dog Mountain, then descend about 4 miles along the Augspurger Trail back to the finish.

The route offers views of the Columbia River below, Mt Hood to the south and Mt St. Helens to the west. The event includes on-site bib pickup the morning of the race; parking at the trailhead is limited and carpooling is recommended.

Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers and to top masters male and female. The first place male and female receive a pair of Inov-8 shoes. Separate King and Queen of the Mountain awards and a fastest downhill award are offered; an entrant is eligible to win only one award.

Food and drinks are provided, including beer from Ninkasi Brewing Company and pizza from Backwoods Brewing Company. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the course. The event is held under a special use permit in partnership with the US Forest Service and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
