The Ruff : Carson, WA

The Ruff is a trail race held at the Dog Mountain Trailhead in Carson, WA, inside the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The event is a 7 Miler that climbs about 3 miles with roughly 3,000 ft of ascent to the summit of Dog Mountain, then descends approximately 4 miles to the finish. The course is run entirely on single-track trails, using Dog Mountain Trail to the summit and Augspurger Trail for the descent. Notable views include the Columbia River below, Mt Hood to the south, and Mt St. Helens to the west.

Race operations start and finish at the Dog Mountain Trailhead. Bib pickup is scheduled 8 AM to 9:45 AM on the morning of the race at the trailhead. Parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended. Registration closes Fri, Nov 20 at 11:59 PM PT.

Awards include top three male and female finishers, top masters male and female, and first place male and female who will receive a free pair of Inov-8 shoes. Separate King and Queen of the Mountain awards will be given to the first male and female, and a fastest downhill time award will be given to the top male and female downhill runners; downhill winners are eligible to receive only one award. Food and drink provided include beer from Ninkasi Brewing Company and pizza from Backwoods Brewing Company. Well behaved dogs are welcome. The event is held under a special use permit in partnership with the US Forest Service and operates without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
