The Ruff takes place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Dog Mountain Trailhead near Carson, WA, in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The event distance is:

Top three male and female finishers will receive awards. Top masters male and female will receive awards. First place male and female will receive a pair of Altra trail shoes. Additional awards include King/Queen of the Mountain for first male and female, and a Downhill Award for the fastest male and female downhill time; participants may win only one award.

Course and logistics

The course is run entirely on single-track trails. Runners ascend the Dog Mountain Trail for about 3 miles with approximately 3,000 ft of climb to the summit, then descend about 4 miles via the Augspurger Trail back to the trailhead. Bib pickup is available the morning of the race at Dog Mountain Trailhead; parking is limited, so carpooling is suggested. Beer will be provided by Ninkasi Brewing Company and a complementary lunch will be available for racers; spectator admission is listed at $10. Dogs are not allowed in the race due to permit conditions. The event is held under a special use permit in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
