Course and Location
The Ruff is a 7-mile trail run that takes place at the Dog Mountain Trailhead in Carson, Washington, within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The course is run entirely on single-track trails. Runners ascend the Dog Mountain Trail to the summit, gaining approximately 3000 feet of elevation over 3 miles. The descent follows the Augspurger Trail back to the finish. The route offers views of the Columbia River, Mount Hood to the south, and Mount St. Helens to the west.
Event Details
Bib pickup occurs on the morning of the race at the Dog Mountain Trailhead. Parking at the trailhead is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. The event is permitted in partnership with the US Forest Service.
Awards and Post-Race
Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female masters runners. The first-place male and female finishers each receive a free pair of Inov-8 shoes. Separate "King/Queen of the Mountain" and fastest downhill awards are also presented. After the race, beer will be provided by Ninkasi Brewing Company and pizza by Backwoods Brewing Company.
