The Mt. Baldy 5000

The Mt. Baldy 5000 is a mountain running and hiking event held on the slopes of the Mt. Baldy Resort. This event takes place near Los Angeles and follows a course that leads participants from the base of the ski lifts to the Top of the Notch.

The event features the following distance:

  • 5 km

The course begins at an elevation of 6,400 feet in the resort parking lot. It includes approximately 1,500 feet of total elevation gain. Participants follow the Manker Trail, which features a steep initial climb before transitioning into a steady ascent for the first 2.2 miles. Upon reaching the Notch, the route continues toward the Mt. Baldy reservoir, loops around it, and concludes with a downhill section to the finish line.

Participants receive a technical trucker hat upon completion. Post-race amenities at the Top of the Notch include a BBQ dinner, music, and a bar. Friends and family can access the finish area by taking the ski lifts. After the event, participants may use the lift to return to the parking lot by presenting their race bib.

The venue has limited cell coverage and no gas stations on the mountain. On-site parking is available in the lift parking lots. A bag check service is provided for transporting small items to the summit, provided they are dropped off at the designated vehicle before the specified cutoff.
