The Kokoda Challenge - Sydney

The Kokoda Challenge - Sydney is a team endurance event held on 19 to 20 September 2026 in Heathcote and Royal National Park. The event starts from Helensburgh Park / Rex Jackson Oval and finishes at Heathcote Oval in Heathcote. Teams of two to five participants take part; solo entries are not permitted.

Distances and basic course details

  • 18 km - Heathcote National Park; 9 hour limit; min age 9; 3 checkpoints
  • 48 km - Heathcote National Park; 20 hour limit; min age 13; 7 checkpoints
  • 96 km - Heathcote National Park; 39 hour limit; min age 15; 11 checkpoints

The route passes through rugged bushland, steep climbs, clifftop coastline and areas with sweeping ocean views on uneven terrain. Support crews are not required for the 18 km but are strongly recommended for the 48 km and the 96 km; the 96 km includes designated support crew checkpoints. Each team must meet a minimum fundraising target before the event; proceeds support the Kokoda Youth Foundation and its fully funded youth programs. Event parking is available near the start and finish but is limited. Course maps and further event details will be provided closer to the event date. Volunteers are included among event roles and are welcomed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
