The GKI Trail Run
The Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon stages The GKI Trail Run on Great Keppel Island on 7 June 2026. The event takes place on an island about 14 km off the Central Queensland coast and uses the GKI Hideaway as the start, finish and recovery venue.
The course offers multiple distance options across beach and mountain terrain. Distances include:
- 9.5 km
- 27 km
Participants may choose their distance during the event. There are no aid stations on course, so each participant must carry at least 1 L of drinking water, basic nutrition, a mobile phone and a bandage. Marshals are positioned at checkpoints to log progress.
Special ferry transfers run from Rosslyn Bay Harbour for people attending the event; ferry bookings are handled by the ferry operator. Accommodation on the island is limited; local options include The GKI Hideaway and Geoff Mercer’s Holiday Village.
Entry fees apply and the ferry transfer is not included in registration costs. Pricing listed for the event is Child (aged 9-17) $35 and Adult (aged 18+) $55. Registrations are not accepted for participants under 9 years on 31 December 2026. Participants under 12 years must be accompanied by a registered adult at all times.
