The Charnwood Challenge

The Charnwood Challenge is an off-road event for runners and walkers held in the Charnwood countryside. The route starts and finishes at the Scout Group HQ building and is approximately 10 miles in length. A provisional map of the route is published by the organisers. The course includes rough and uneven ground, such as rocks, mud, tree roots and wet grass, together with steep climbs and descents, and some rural sections remote from road access. Parts of certain bridleways and permissive paths are eroded in places; entrants are reminded they take part at their own risk and remain responsible for their own safety.

Entry fees vary by date and affiliation status, with higher fees applied after late registration dates; separate fees apply for junior walkers and a junior challenge. Registration is available on the day for any remaining places and numbers are collected at Event HQ. Walkers are asked to provide a mobile number for use during the event; junior walkers must remain with a parent or guardian. A water station is provided at about 5.5 miles and water will also be available at the finish; reusable bottles can be refilled. Refreshments and toilet facilities are available at Event HQ, and secure bag storage is provided. Dogs are not permitted on the route except assistance dogs, and prizes are awarded in multiple runner and walker categories. An ARC permit has been applied for.
