Thames Trail Ultra is a point-to-point ultra marathon of 47 miles running from Iffley (Hawkwell House Hotel) to Henley-on-Thames (Y Centre, Lawson Road). The event follows sections of the Thames Path and the Ridgeway National Trails and is registered as a UTMB Index race in the 50K category. Entry is restricted to competitors aged 18 or over, and the race has a cut-off time of 11.5 hours.
Course, support and logistics
The route is a mix of country trails, riverside paths and roads: 40.4 miles (86%) cross-country/trails and 6.6 miles (14%) roads, with elevation gain of +947 ft (+289 m) and loss of -1053 ft (-321 m). The course is waymarked and supported by electronic tracking; competitors are issued a GPS tracker and provided GPX/ridewithgps resources. There are five checkpoints offering water and snacks. One competitor bag may be transferred to the finish; maximum bag size is UK carry-on 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Some route features are currently closed or diverted, including the Donkey Bridge near the finish and Benson weir footway, with the diversion shown on event GPX and tracker. Mandatory kit is required and subject to random checks; required items include a fully charged mobile phone, power bank, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch with spare batteries, warm layers, hat and gloves, and a debit or credit card.
