THAMES TRAIL ULTRA
The Thames Trail Ultra is a 47-mile point-to-point ultra-marathon on Saturday 25 October 2025, running from Hawkwell House Hotel in Iffley (south of Oxford) to the YMCA Y Centre in Henley-on-Thames. The event is registered on the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) Index in the 50K category. Entry includes a GPS tracker; the stated entry fee is £70. The race is restricted to competitors aged 18 and over and has an overall cut-off time of 11.5 hours. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers, and all finishers receive a medal and Go Beyond merchandise.
Course and logistics
The route follows the Thames Path and the Ridgeway National Trails and includes a mix of country trails, riverside paths and roads. The course comprises 47 miles in total, with 40.4 miles (86%) on cross-country and riverside surfaces and 6.6 miles (14%) on roads. Total elevation is listed as +947 ft (+289 m) ascent and -1053 ft (-321 m) descent. Some local route changes apply this year: the Donkey Bridge near the finish is off-limits and the Benson Weir footway is closed; updated GPX and tracker guidance will show the diversion. There are five checkpoints with water and snacks, toilets near CP1, CP4 and CP5, baggage transfer for one carry-on sized bag, and real-time tracking using Geo Tracks. Mandatory kit includes a charged mobile phone, power bank, minimum 1 L water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch with spare batteries, hat and gloves, long-sleeved top, and a debit/credit card. Trail shoes are recommended and some sections can become very muddy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
