Thames Trail Ultra
Thames Trail Ultra is a point-to-point ultra running event that follows the River Thames from Iffley in Oxfordshire to Henley-on-Thames, starting near the Hawkwell House Hotel and finishing at the Y Centre on Lawson Road in Henley-on-Thames. The route measures approximately 47 miles and follows sections of the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails.
The course mixes riverside paths, cross country trails and roads, with roughly 40.4 miles on trails and riverside paths and 6.6 miles on roads. Total ascent is about +947 ft (+289 m) with descent around -1053 ft (-321 m). The route is waymarked and supported by electronic tracking; organisers provide a GPS tracker for each competitor and publish a RideWithGPS route and OS Maps coverage.
There are five checkpoints along the route offering water and snacks; toilets are available a short walk from some checkpoints. A single competitor bag is transferred to the finish (maximum size 56 x 45 x 25 cm). The event enforces a mandatory kit list including items such as a charged mobile phone, power bank, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, torch and spare batteries, warm layers and a payment card. Competitors must be over 18. The event is registered as a UTMB Index race in the 50K category. A progressive overall cut off of 11.5 hours applies.
