Course and terrain
The course starts and finishes in a valley with farms along a creek. Runners ascend a mountain to a bird observatory tower on a cliff, continue along a rolling ridge through meadows and grassy, somewhat rocky trails, and pass deciduous trees, pines, and rhododendron. The route returns along a ridge at the state border, includes a gradual grassy descent, then a steeper downhill that becomes a winding forest road. The final miles are on a paved road back to the start, passing farms.
The 50k includes about 4,000 feet of elevation gain. The 20-mile course includes about 2,500 feet of gain and may include an extra mile.
Other information
The race uses sections of the Allegheny Trail and the event will donate proceeds to that trail. There are no refunds. Race shirts are provided to the first 50 registered participants.
