Tatonka 50k & 20 Miler : Waiteville, WV
The event offers two trail distances that start and finish in a valley of buffalo farms beside a creek near Waiteville Community Center, 1735 Rays Siding Rd., Waiteville, WV. The course climbs to a cliff-top bird observatory tower and follows a rolling ridge through meadows, grassy and somewhat rocky trails, deciduous trees, pines, and rhododendron. Runners cross a ridge at the state border, descend grassy slopes, and transition to a winding, faster road through forest before returning on paved road past farms to the finish.
Distances:
- 50k: approximately 4,000 feet of elevation gain.
- 20 Miler: approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain; may include a bonus mile.
There are five aid stations for the 50k and three for the 20 miler. Cutoff to complete either distance is 8.5 hours. T-shirts are reserved for the first 50 registrants, with sizes guaranteed through January 5. The first 35 finishers in each distance receive a finisher award. The race organizer will donate proceeds to the Allegheny Trail through West Virginia Scenic Trails. The organizer states there are no refunds even in poor weather.
