Takayna Trail
Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser organised by the Bob Brown Foundation in remote North West Lutruwita / Tasmania. The event began in 2014 and by 2026 had become the foundation's largest annual fundraising event, raising over $400,000 that year.
The course sits in the heart of Takayna and features landscapes with ancient Gondwanan rainforest, buttongrass plains, steep hills and uneven surfaces. The route traverses forests of ferns, fungi, epiphytes, lichen and mosses, and includes sections of towering eucalypt trees, myrtle forest and views over green valleys. Terrain and vegetation regularly change along the trails.

- 62 km
Safety and mandatory equipment requirements are specified for all participants. Required items include a waterproof seam sealed jacket with hood, a long sleeve thermal top, a mobile phone with at least eight hours battery and the Avenza app with georeferenced map, emergency food ration (800 cal for 62 km, 600 cal for 37 km, 400 cal for 22 km), water capacity (2 L for 62 km and 37 km, 1 L for 22 km), a torch of minimum 100 lumens, whistle, space blanket, compass, an appropriate snake bandage, printed maps in a waterproof bag, a poo bag and warm head and hand coverings. Drop bags are allowed for 62 km and 37 km participants.
Event headquarters use the Men’s Shed in Waratah. Designated unpowered tent and car camping areas are provided on site. The Men’s Shed offers accessible toilets and showers and a near level 3 cm step with a ramped entrance. A volunteer kitchen provides vegan and peanut free meals with gluten free options across the event weekend; wristbands issued at registration are required for meals. Waratah has limited supplies and one petrol station; larger shopping centres are in Burnie and Launceston. Pets are not permitted.
