Sydney's Backyard Ultra

Sydney's Backyard Ultra takes place on 19 September 2026 at St Ives Showground. The format requires runners to complete a precisely measured loop of 6.706 km each hour. Each loop must be finished within the hour; a runner who fails to finish a loop or to start the next loop is removed from the race. The event continues until only one runner remains. The total distance is unlimited.

The course will be fully marked the day before the event. Each loop has approximately 34 metres of elevation gain and good visibility for supporters approaching the start/finish corral. The starting corral is measured to fit the full field. Entry capacity is 750 runners and there are two price tiers, General and Final.

Race entry includes a premium event shirt, free race photos, a meaningful finisher medal, and live streaming of the race on YouTube. Timing of individual loops is optional but completion within the hour is mandatory for continuation and final results.

Mandatory items include an allocated race number, a head torch with sufficient batteries, a charged mobile phone with race contact numbers saved, and a reusable cup or flask because the event is cupless. Recommended items include a small shelter no larger than 3 m by 3 m that is properly weighted, warm clothing for rest periods, spare shoes, battery lighting for personal aid areas, recovery equipment, a personal first aid kit, and sufficient food and hydration supplies.
