Sydney's Backyard Ultra

Sydney's Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held at the St Ives Showground. Following the traditional backyard ultra format, participants must complete a 6.706 km loop (one yard) every hour, on the hour. The event is open-ended and continues until only one runner remains who can finish a loop within the 60-minute time limit.

The course features 34 metres of elevation gain per loop and will be fully marked. Support crews are permitted to assist runners between loops but are not allowed to provide aid while the participant is on the course. Pacer runners are not permitted. The event has a participant capacity of 500 runners.

Participants are required to carry specific mandatory gear, including an allocated race number, a head torch with sufficient batteries for night running, and a mobile phone. This is a cupless event, so runners must provide their own reusable cup or flask for hydration.

Entry includes:

  • Premium event shirt
  • Professional race photography
  • Finishers medal
  • Live streaming of the event

The venue at the St Ives Showground includes a main arena where participants can set up personal support stations with gazebos (maximum size 3m x 3m). Various milestones are tracked throughout the event, starting from the first yard up to distances exceeding 800 km. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
