Course and race rules
The course is a 6.8-mile loop formed by three main loops and several connecting trails: Swamp Forest, Coon Bottom, and Oak Hammock. Terrain includes rolling sections on single-track and multi-use trails. Notable features along the course include seepage basin swamps, ephemeral ponds, Beech-Magnolia and Spruce Pine forests, a clear sand-bottom seepage stream, shoreline near Lake Jackson, patches of Giant Cane, and stands of large Tulip-Poplars. Deer and gopher tortoise holes are mentioned along parts of the Oak Hammock Loop.
The event uses a loop-based format: one loop for the quarter marathon, two loops for the half marathon, and three loops for the 20-Mile Challenge. Runners must meet loop-based time limits; the 20-Mile Challenge allows five hours total, and runners who do not finish the second loop within 3.5 hours may be awarded the half marathon finish. Packet pickup is available on race morning at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
