Squirrel Challenge
The Squirrel Challenge is a six hour timed event organised by Big Bear Events at Daventry Country Park, NN11 2JB. The course uses a roughly 3.3 mile off-road loop that runs on pathways and mostly on crushed stone; the organiser notes about 80% of the route should be good running surface. Final routing will be confirmed in the autumn to include new sections of the country park.
Participants complete as many laps as they wish within the six hour limit. The organiser provides lap-to-distance guidance: a half marathon requires four laps and a marathon eight laps. The event format accommodates runners, hikers and ruckers. Canicross entries are permitted; handlers should keep leads short and be considerate of other participants.
Daventry Country Park offers a large car park, a cafe, a toilet block on the route and a children’s play area. Parking charges range from £2 to £8 depending on length of stay. The venue is about 20 minutes from M1 Junction 16 and the nearest station is Long Buckby.
Entry is priced on a tiered basis: entries before 04/01/2027 are listed at £38, and entries after that date at £43; unaffiliated entrants pay an additional £2. The event provides a route GPX and route markings on race day. Instead of a medal, participants may opt for a tree token that corresponds with a tree planting and contains wildflower seeds.
