Squirrel Challenge at Daventry Country Park

Big Bear Events runs a six hour lap event at Daventry Country Park. The course is an off‑road loop of about 3.3 miles on pathways and mostly relatively new crushed stone, so around 80% of the route should be good running unless weather is poor. The route uses park pathways rather than open muddy terrain; final route sections may change as new park areas open.

Facilities at the country park include a large car park, a cafe, a toilet block and a children's play area. Parking costs are between £2 and £8 depending on duration. The park is about 20 minutes from M1 Junction 16 and the nearest train station is Long Buckby.

The event format allows participants to complete as many laps as they wish within the six hour time limit. Typical distances and lap counts:

  • 3.3 mile loop
  • Half marathon equals 4 laps
  • Marathon equals 8 laps

Canicross entries are permitted; dogs must be kept on short leads and handlers should consider other runners. Rucking is also accepted. Entrants can opt for a physical medal or an alternative tree token that results in a tree being planted and includes wildflower seeds. There is a partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and donors can make donations during sign up. Explanatory videos, GPX files and an on‑demand option are provided by the organiser. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
