Spirit of Syllamo : December 13, 2025
Spirit of Syllamo is an ultra endurance trail event held in Norfork, Arkansas, at Misty Mornings (309 Riverview Trail). The 2025 event uses new routes and a new venue after a March 2025 tornado and later flooding damaged much of the original trail system. Three distance options are offered:
- 100 miles
- 35 miles
- ~9 miles (listed as 13.1 for other years; 2025 route is about 9 miles)
Course, support, and logistics
The course runs on rugged Ozarks singletrack: rocky, steep, and densely forested terrain with frequent changes in grade and surface. Water crossings occur on many sections; 9-mile runners do not have water crossings. For the 100-mile race, Cole Fork is crossed around miles 25 and 75, and Spring Creek around miles 40 and 60. Elevation gain averages about 170 feet per mile by device readings, though the course may feel steeper.
Aid stations are spaced widely, often several miles apart, and may range from about 5 to 13+ miles between stations. Standard aid includes electrolyte drinks, soda, water, gels, solid foods, and warm cooked items; basic first aid is available. Drop bags are used for 35-mile and 100-mile distances and must be labeled with bib number, runner name, and location. Crew access to some aid locations is limited and some roads are steep; a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for remote crew access. Pacers are allowed on parts of the 100-mile course. Custom awards and a post race meal are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
