South Downs Way Ultra Run

This is a guided trail run of 30 miles starting and finishing on Harting Down in West Sussex. The route includes sections of the South Downs Way and nearby trails, visiting Beacon Hill, Cocking Down and Kingley Vale, and uses parts of the Sussex Border Path, Shipwrights Way and Staunton Way. The course passes through ancient woodland, small villages and nature reserves; Kingley Vale is noted for its twisted ancient yew trees and veteran trees.

The event is run as a group rather than a race and is presented as suitable for first time ultra runners. The route is managed by an experienced guide who provides route direction and advice during the run. Participants are expected to have a suitable level of fitness and trail experience.

Practical details provided by the organiser include a recommended minimum training run of 22 miles and an advised sustained trail pace of about 10 minutes per mile (6 minutes per kilometre). A full kit list will be supplied. There is a car park at Harting Down and a train station a short run or taxi ride away; Harting Down is close to the A3 and has road access. Entry cost is listed as £45 per person. At the end of the run participants may receive an alcohol free beer from a partner brand, subject to availability.
