The South Downs Way Ultra Run is a guided trail run on Saturday 28 February 2026, meeting at Harting Down in West Sussex. The distance is 30 miles and the entry cost is £45 per person. The event is presented as a non-competitive group run and is aimed at first-time ultra runners.

Route

The route starts and finishes at Harting Down and uses sections of the South Downs Way and nearby paths. Highlights named for the route include Beacon Hill, Cocking Down and Kingley Vale. The course passes through ancient woodland, small villages and nature reserves, and includes parts of the Sussex Border Path, the Shipwrights Way and the Staunton Way. Kingley Vale is noted for its twisted, ancient yew trees and veteran grove.

Logistics and requirements

A car park is available at the meeting location. The site is a short run or taxi ride from a train station. Participants are advised to have run at least 22 miles in training and to be able to sustain an average pace of about 10 minutes per mile (6 minutes per km) on trail for prolonged periods. A full kit list will be provided in advance. An alcohol-free beer may be offered at the end of the run, subject to availability.
