South Downs Trail Run, Goodwood Racecourse, West Sussex
The South Downs Trail Run is a sell-out event that attracts over 1,000 runners. The event starts at Goodwood Racecourse and takes participants into the South Downs National Park, with views toward the North Downs, Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight on clear days.
The route is routed to showcase local landscapes, weaving through forest tracks, skirting Levin Down and following a section of the South Downs Way. The course includes a downhill into East Dean and a final climb back to Goodwood. Surfaces include forest fire roads, bridleways and single-track trails. Course signage uses pink arrows and pink tape, and hazards and road junctions are marked with caution signs.
Three distances are offered, with canicross options available:
- 21.3k Half Marathon canicross option available
- 16.5k Trail Run canicross option available
- 12k Trail Run canicross option available
Entries include chip timing, a metal finisher medal, a finisher goodie and a refreshing drink, a personalised certificate, first aid cover, on-course water stations and friendly marshals. Runners collect bib numbers on arrival and are asked to bring a QR code and a reusable cup or bottle, as the event operates plastic free. Spectators are welcome.
