South Downs Trail Run, Goodwood Racecourse
The South Downs Trail Run is a sold-out trail running event that attracted over 1,000 runners. It starts and finishes at Goodwood Racecourse and runs into the South Downs National Park, offering open landscape views and varied off road terrain.
The route includes viewpoints with glimpses of the North Downs, Chichester Harbour, and the Isle of Wight on a clear day. The course weaves through forest tracks, skirts the edge of Levin Down, and joins a stretch of the South Downs Way. Runners descend into East Dean and then follow a final climb back to Goodwood Racecourse.
Terrain on the course includes forest fire roads, bridleways, and single-track trails, providing changing surfaces across the route. The event lists three distances:
- 21.3k Half Marathon, 328m elevation
- 16.5k Trail, 309m elevation
- 12k Trail, 199m elevation, canicross option
Entries include chip timing, a high quality metal finisher medal, a refreshing drink, finisher goodies, a personalised certificate, first aid cover, on-course refreshments and water stations. The event operates a plastic free policy at water stations and asks participants to use a reusable cup or bottle. Course signage uses pink arrows and pink tape, and hazards or road junctions are marked with caution signs. Canicross entries are permitted with one dog per runner.
