Participants navigate a course set within the Sliabh Bawn Wind Farm Recreation Area, with the start and finish lines located at the main car park area near wind turbine T20. The event is part of the Galway League and the North West League.

The course consists of hard-packed gravel roads. Two distance options are available:

  • 8 km: A continuous anticlockwise loop involving 250 meters of elevation gain.
  • 4.5 km: An out-and-back route designed for juniors and those seeking a shorter distance, with approximately 100 meters of elevation.

Technical Details and Safety

The route is fully marked for all participants; however, the use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted. The race is classified with a difficulty rating of 5, which indicates easy terrain with moderate ascent.

Mandatory safety equipment is required for all runners. Participants must carry a Level B standard kit, which includes a waterproof jacket, a hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with emergency numbers, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Race officials may perform random checks to ensure compliance, and the specific items required on the day may be adjusted based on weather conditions.

Refreshments and the prize-giving ceremony occur near the finish line at the registration area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
