Slieve Bawn
Organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association in County Roscommon on Saturday 25 July 2026, Slieve Bawn is a mountain running event with marked routes and a defined kit requirement. The event is classed as Difficulty 5: easy terrain, 200 m to 500 m ascent, and distances in the 6 km to 10 km range. GPS devices are not allowed. The route is fully marked.
Distances:
- 8.00 km main loop with about 250 m elevation gain.
- 4.50 km short out and back for juniors with about 100 m elevation gain.
The main course is on hard packed gravel roads and is run as one continuous anticlockwise loop. A revised route was used compared with the previous year. A route map and course profile are provided by the organisers.
Mandatory Level B kit must be carried: waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag or equivalent. The specific kit to be carried on race day may be finalised depending on conditions and will be announced at registration. Competitors must be able to carry the kit; random checks may be carried out and lack of required items can result in refusal of entry or disqualification.
Entries open Monday 20 July 2026 at 21:00 and close Friday 24 July 2026 at 18:00. Entry limit is 250. Fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. The meeting point and start/finish is the main car park at Sliabh Bawn Wind Farm Recreation Area Parking, beside wind turbine T20. Prizegiving and refreshments will take place near the finish at the registration area. The event counts for the Galway League and the North West League.
