Event Details
The Sledgehammer Beach Run is held on the sand at North Topsail Beach, North Carolina. The event address is 2950 Island Drive, North Topsail Beach, NC.
Distances
The in-person event offers three race distances:
- Sledgehammer Half Marathon Beach Run
- Sledgehammer 10k Beach Run
- Sledgehammer 5k Beach Run
Virtual options are also available for all three distances.
Event Background
The event is hosted by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission (JOSC), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is held in memory of Dr. E.B. Sledge, a Marine and World War II veteran, with the mission to honor his memory and that of all combat veterans. A portion of the race proceeds supports Semper Fi & America’s Fund, which assists wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families.
Course Information
All courses for the half marathon, 10k, and 5k are run entirely on the beach. There is a four-hour time limit for the half marathon; participants still on the course after this time will be disqualified for awards.
Additional Information
The event takes place rain or shine. Race t-shirts and other merchandise are available for separate purchase during registration, rather than being included in the entry fee.
