The Sledgehammer Beach Run takes place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in North Topsail Beach, NC at 2950 Island Drive. The event is owned and operated by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It is held in memory of Dr. E.B. Sledge and donates a portion of proceeds to Semper Fi & America’s Fund to assist wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families. The event is a rain-or-shine event.

Races, course and logistics

All in-person courses are run on the beach. The event includes the following distances and virtual options:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10K
  • 5K Each distance also has a virtual race option.

The half marathon has a four-hour course cutoff; participants remaining on course after four hours will be picked up by staff and will be disqualified for awards. Registration pricing for in-person events increases after December 31, 2025.
