Event overview
The Seven Sisters 25k is a mountain trail race in Montreat, NC. The advertised distance is 25 km (about 15 miles) with approximately 4,000 ft of elevation gain. The course is mostly singletrack trail, listed as about 95% trail. The event has a 5-hour time limit and aid stations located at roughly mile 4 and mile 8.
Course and logistics
The route runs around the East and West ridges of the Montreat Wilderness and passes over multiple peaks and overlooks, including Lookout Rocks, Rocky Head, Graybeard, Rattlesnake Rocks, and the Seven Sisters section along the West Ridge Trail. There is no parking at the start; participants park at designated sites nearby and walk about one third of a mile from parking to the start/finish area. The race is cupless, so participants must carry their own water containers.
Rules, gear and policies
Prior trail running experience is required to participate. Participants must carry required gear at all times: a rain shell, at least a 20 oz water carrying device, a whistle, a cell phone, and an emergency blanket. Race rules include staying on marked trails, not cutting switchbacks, using proper trail etiquette, and obeying race officials. Refunds are available minus $20 up to 60 days before the event; after that no refunds, transfers, or deferments are allowed. If the event is canceled, it will be run virtually on the actual course and no refunds, transfers, or deferments will be given. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers and to all finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
