About the race
Schafberglauf is the 27th edition of an annual mountain run held on 8 May 2027. The course is 7,58 km long with about 1,221 m of elevation gain and runs mainly on forest paths and hiking trails.
The route offers panoramic views of Wolfgangsee and Mondsee and features sustained gradients from 4 to 24 percent. There are three aid stations located at Dorneralm (km 2.8, 1,011 m), Schafbergalm (km 5.98, 1,366 m) and at the finish (km 7.58, 1,721 m).
The race starts at Schafbergbahnhof Markt 35, 5360 St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut and finishes at Schafbergspitze. Arrival by public transport is possible with bus 546 from Bad Ischl or Strobl to the St. Wolfgang Schafbergbahn stop. Parking is available at parking areas near the Schafbergbahnhof and at the St. Wolfgang car park after the tunnel exit; these are fee based.
Participant numbers are limited to 300. Fee tiers are stated for the first 300 entries with later entries at a higher fee. Services include a start bag with goodies, three aid stations, a finisher medal, a free downhill ride valued at €43 for participants, a personal finisher photo and a downloadable certificate. Changing rooms and showers are available at the Schafbergbahnhof and at Hotel Schafbergspitze. Clothing is transported from the valley station to the finish.
The event includes age categories from U20 through 80 and awards 60 glass trophies for top three finishers in the classes. The race counts for the Austrian mountain running cup 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
