Serpent Trail
The Serpent Trail is a trail running event in the South Downs National Park, based at Petersfield Rugby Club in Hampshire (GU31 4EP). The route runs through lowland heath, ancient woodland, coppices, greensand hills, river meanders and farmland described as habitats rarer than rainforest. Permanent Serpent Trail markings and additional race signage guide runners along the course. Camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights and a kids race takes place on Friday evening. Food and a licensed bar are provided at the event venue. Coach transport to race starts is included with all race entries. Walkers are welcome.
Distances offered at the event:
- 100 km, 1785 m total ascent, 9 checkpoints, 18 hour time limit.
- 75 km, 1200 m total ascent, 7 checkpoints, walkers welcome.
- 50 km, starts near Petworth and finishes in Petersfield, 700 m ascent, 5 checkpoints.
- 20 km, flat route, 2 checkpoints, woodland and heath scenery.
- 10 km, 6 mile route, water station, mix of country roads, heathland and fields.
Event date is 3 July 2027. Entries open 30 October 2026 and close 26 June 2027; some distances close earlier. Minimum age is 16. An instalment payment option is available for some distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
