Serpent Trail

The Serpent Trail is a long distance trail running event based at Petersfield Rugby Club, Hampshire (GU31 4EP) that follows sections of the Serpent Trail through the South Downs National Park and surrounding South East countryside. The event offers multiple distances, permanent waymarking plus additional race signage, and coach transport to the race starts included with entries.

Camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights and there is a kids race on Friday evening. Food and a licensed bar are provided at the event venue. Walkers are welcome on most distances. Minimum age for entry is 16.

Entries open on 30 October 2026. General entries close on 26 June 2027, with some distances closing earlier; the 100 km, 50 km and 20 km options close on 5 June 2027. An instalment payment option is available for some entries.

  • 100 km: 1785 m ascent, 9 checkpoints, 18 hour time limit.
  • 75 km: 1200 m ascent, 7 checkpoints, walkers welcome.
  • 50 km: 700 m ascent, 5 checkpoints, starts near Petworth, finishes Petersfield.
  • 20 km: 2 checkpoints, woodland, heath and river sections, flat route.
  • 10 km: 6 mile route, water station, mixed roads, heathland, woodland and cornfields.

Trail runs nearby

A guided 13 miles trail run around the Surrey Hills starting and finishing in Guildford, visiting St Martha's Church and parts of the North Downs Way. Group paced with a suggested average of about 10 minutes per mile on trails.

Backyard Ultra at Chilton Manor Farm in Chilton Candover is a private, sold out backyard ultra on a 6.706 km loop around Godsfield Copse. Runners repeat a 4.16666 mile lap each hour until only one runner completes the next lap.

Trail running at Alice Holt Forest on 7 June 2026 with 10 km and half marathon options, live chip timing, and canicross permitted; finishers receive a medal, merchandise and refreshments.

A 100 mile non stop foot race along the South Downs Way from near Winchester to Eastbourne, with 12 aid stations, full medical support and a 30 hour cut off. Mandatory kit, pacing and crew rules apply and qualification is required.
