Serpent Trail
The Serpent Trail is a multi-distance trail running event in the South Downs National Park based at Petersfield Rugby Club, Hampshire, GU31 4EP. The route follows the permanent Serpent Trail waymarking combined with additional race signage and passes through lowland heath, ancient woodland, greensand hills and river meanders.
Coach transport to the race starts is included with entries. Camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights and a kids race takes place on Friday evening. Food and a licensed bar are provided at the event venue. Walkers are welcome and the event has a minimum age of 16.
Distances and key facts:
- 100 km - 1785 m total ascent; 9 checkpoints; 18 hour time limit
- 75 km - 1200 m total ascent; 7 checkpoints; walkers welcome
- 50 km - 700 m total ascent; 5 checkpoints; starts near Petworth, finishes Petersfield
- 20 km - 2 checkpoints; woodland, heath and river scenery; walkers welcome
- 10 km - 6 mile route; water station; walkers welcome
Entries open 30 October 2026 and close 26 June 2027. The 100 km, 50 km and 20 km distances close 5 June 2027. Entry fees by distance are listed and an instalment option is available for selected races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
