The event includes three races:
- A trail marathon
- A trail half marathon
- A 2 mile run
Course and Rules
The courses take place in Salida, Colorado, on the Arkansas Hills Trail System and use dirt roads, jeep roads, and narrow, hilly single-track trails. The elevation ranges from 7,000 to 9,000 feet. Participation is for foot travel only. Crews and pacers are not allowed on either the marathon or half marathon course.
There is a time limit of 7.5 hours for the marathon and 5 hours for the half marathon. The combined participant limit for the marathon and half marathon is 500 people, split mostly evenly between the two events.
Race Details
Registration for the event opens on November 1. All registered runners receive custom race socks. A light hot meal is available at the finish for contestants. Proceeds from the event are donated to Salida Mountain Trails and Chaffee County Search and Rescue-South.
Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each race, and to the top three male and female finishers in each 10-year age group. A free kids' 400-meter run also takes place in Riverside Park.
The race start is a short walk from the Salida Scout Hut, which is the location for packet pickup, the finish line, restrooms, and post-race activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
