High Lonesome 100 course overview

The High Lonesome 100 is a high-elevation, single-loop trail race in the Sawatch Range of the Colorado Rockies. The route starts and finishes at County Road 321 at the base of Mount Princeton (38.740213, -106.160962) and covers 100 miles with about 23,300 feet of total elevation gain. Average elevation is listed at 10,426 feet, with a high point near 13,100 feet and a low point near 8,200 feet. The race has a 37-hour cutoff and includes roughly 15% of the course above treeline.

The course follows 27 miles of the Continental Divide Trail and 35 miles of the Colorado Trail, passes through two ghost towns (St Elmo and Hancock), and crosses five alpine passes. Terrain is a mix of single track (about 66%), mining roads (27%), gravel roads (3%), and paved sections (4%). Notable sections include a roughly 5,000-foot climb under Mount Antero, a sustained exposed ridge running above treeline for about five miles, and a long 20-mile stretch of continuous single track on the Colorado Trail. Organizers publish detailed course materials, including maps and downloadable GPX/KMZ files, and staff aid stations with experienced 100-mile race captains.
