Event overview

Run Forest Run is a trail race held at Lake Sylvia State Park in Montesano, Washington. Distances offered:

  • 50 K
  • 25 K

The event is organized by a local trail running non-profit. Registration closes Feb 11. Entry fees are listed as $35 for the 25K and $45 for the 50K. No refunds are offered. No day-of registration is allowed per state park rules. If entered in the 50K, a runner may drop down to the 25K on race day.

Course and logistics

The start and finish are inside the state park and most of the course runs on trails through a neighboring working forest owned by the City of Montesano. The 25K is a single loop made mostly of double or single track trail and gravel road with less than two miles of paved road. The 50K is two loops of the 25K course. Elevation gain is approximately 2,900 feet per loop, spread over many short climbs. Sections of trail can be rough, rutted, and muddy; some parts pass recently clearcut areas and the shoreline of Lake Sylvia.

Aid stations: one for the 25K (a little over halfway) and two for the 50K (start/finish and a little over halfway). Stations provide water and typical ultra foods. This is a CUPLESS event; participants need their own cup for water/electrolytes. There is a four-hour cutoff at the finish line to be allowed to start a second loop, a requirement that the second loop be started before noon, and an overall cutoff of eight and a half hours. A Washington State Discover Pass is required to park inside the state park; overnight camping is available. After the race, food is provided to runners and volunteers in the Legacy Pavilion.
