Ripon Round Ultra and Relay : event overview

The Ripon Round Ultra and Relay is a 35 miles circular event based at Studley Roger Village Hall in North Yorkshire. The course follows the northern section of the Ripon Rowel and passes through trail, woodland and moorland within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route finishes with a downhill section through Studley Royal deer park back into Studley Roger.

The event offers individual solo entries and relay teams. Race headquarters at Studley Roger Village Hall provides refreshments, hot food and toilet facilities. The route features four staffed checkpoints offering water, savouries, sweets and cake; additional water stations may be provided depending on the weather. Toilet facilities are available at Checkpoint 3 (approximately 19 miles). Paper cups will not be provided at checkpoints.

Finishers of the full course receive a T-shirt. Relay team members also receive a T-shirt. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and first three female finishers, to age-category winners, and to the fastest relay team. A team trophy is presented to a club team of five runners (at least one female) with the lowest cumulative time, provided all team members complete the full course individually.

The event is held under UKA rules. Participants must meet minimum age requirements: solo entrants must be at least 20 years old and relay participants at least 17 years old. Mandatory equipment includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat, gloves, emergency food, at least 500 ml water, foil blanket and a route map or description; a fully charged mobile phone is also required. A short evening fell relay on the Otley Chevin and Danefield terrain, run by Horsforth Fellandale. The course is about 3 miles with c. 558 ft of ascent and entries for 2026 are via an online form with a pre entry closing date.

A multi-day gravel and trail running festival at Duncombe Park with a Friday 6 km night loop and Saturday 10 km, 20 km or 30 km routes, timed mystery segments, on-site camping and festival amenities.

Take on the New Embsay Fell Race on Sat 11 Jul: a punchy 2.5 mile course with 195 m of climb through the Yorks Dales. Part of the village fete, enjoy entertainment and refreshments and easy on the day entry for a fun community challenge.

A point to point challenge of just over 40 miles across the classic Lyke Wake route from near Osmotherley to Ravenscar, run on a handicap basis with seven checkpoints, mandatory kit and a twelve hour overall time limit.
