Rock ‘N Reef Trail Run

Bowen, Australia • 28 Jun 2026

Event Overview

The Rock ‘N Reef Trail Run is the fourth event in the Outer Limits Trail Run Series, located in Bowen at the top of the Whitsundays. The event base is situated at Case Park on Horseshoe Bay Road. The courses utilize the trails within the Cape Edgecumbe Heights Recreation Reserve, featuring a mix of rocky headlands, sandy beaches, and single-track paths.

Participants can choose from three distinct distances:

  • 6 km: A beginner-friendly course that leads through Edgecumbe Reserve to Mother Beddock and the WWII Lookout before finishing along the Horseshoe Bay foreshore.
  • 10 km: An intermediate route that includes loops up to Mother Beddock and Murray Bay, featuring a coasteering section along the headlands.
  • 18 km: The longest option, extending the route to Flagstaff Hill with views of the nearby lighthouse and including technical rock-hopping sections.

Terrain and Safety

The trails consist of uneven surfaces, including rocks, soft sand, and steep climbs with fast descents. Some sections of the longer distances involve coasteering or rock-hopping along the shoreline. Mandatory gear is required for the 10 km and 18 km distances, including compression bandages, a whistle, a space blanket, and a fully charged mobile phone.

Logistics

The event provides professional electronic timing, and all finishers receive a race bib with an integrated timing chip. Water and snack support are available on the course, though participants must carry their own bottles as no cups are provided. On-site facilities include toilets at Race HQ and near the foreshore, as well as recovery stations and food services. Parking is available along Horseshoe Bay Road.
