The event is part of a series designed to introduce night running. The 5 km is a loop run under headtorch and the shorter distances are completed before sunset. The 21 km, 42 km and 50 km events extend into the night. The venue provides views of fireworks from Melbourne to Geelong waterfront and the Bellarine Peninsula. Participants are invited to bring picnic rugs and chairs; coffee is provided.

Logistics, course and community giving

Course maps and parking instructions are provided as downloadable PDFs, including the main 5 km loop, a 21.1 km first lap with an extra 1.1 km, and a 42.2 km first lap with an extra 2.2 km. Parking uses a turntable car parking instruction.

Fees for 2025 vary by distance and registration period, with listed prices ranging from $35 to $130. All prices include GST; Humanitix booking fees are added at checkout. On-day registration is available at higher rates. Trailsplus donates $1 per participant to Canteen. The organisation reports total donations have now surpassed $80,000; in 2024 there were 242 competitors and Trailsplus made a $300 donation to Canteen after online contributions.
