Rio Frio on Ice

Event details

The Rio Frio 5k on Ice is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Alamosa, Colorado (502 2nd St., 81101). The event is a 5-kilometre run conducted on the frozen Rio Grande; an alternate course using the 30-acre pond at Blanca Vista Park and a portion of the levee trail system is used if ice depth is unsafe. The race is chip-timed and includes ice-themed awards. The event was named one of three editor's picks by Runner's World Magazine in 2015.

The listed entry price for the 5k fun run is $22.20 (includes a $2.20 fee); the price increases after December 28, 2025. There were 390 spots available at the time of posting. Race registration does not include a shirt; shirts may be purchased for $15 during registration with a preorder deadline of December 31, 2025. Race bibs, timing chips, and swag bags are available for pickup the evening before at Knee Knockers Bar & Grill (500 Cottonwood Dr, Alamosa) and on race morning at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center.
