Range of Light Trail Races (Cancelled)

The Range of Light Trail Races in Bishop, California was scheduled as a fundraiser for Inyo County Search and Rescue and has been cancelled. The event was planned to use Millpond County Recreation Area as the start and finish location, accessed from Highway 395 about ten minutes from central Bishop.

Distances offered:

  • 50k
  • 33k
  • 10k
  • 5k

Courses combine dirt roads and single track through the Tungsten Hills and nearby terrain. The 5k is a family and pet friendly loop out of Millpond. The 10k follows a longer loop with one aid station around mile 2.2 and includes a notable hill; the course distance is described as closer to 12k. The 33k and 50k routes leave Millpond, climb steep and rocky single track to the Tungsten crest with roughly 1,500 feet of gain on two separate climbs, then descend to multiple aid stations before returning to Millpond. Views toward Mt. Humphreys and Mt. Tom are noted.

Aid stations were to provide fruit, salty snacks, and at some stops heartier food such as pancakes and quesadillas. Drop bags were allowed at specified aid stations for 50k participants. Dogs are allowed in the start and finish area but are discouraged on the course except for the 5k and 10k. Poles are permitted. No crew or pacers are allowed.
