The Range of Light Trail Races are held at Millpond County Recreation Area near Bishop, California. The event offers four distances:

  • 5k

The event benefits Inyo County Search and Rescue. Same-day registration at Millpond is available for the 5k and 10k but not for the 33k and 50k; same-day registrants do not receive event shirts. The start and finish area is signed from Highway 395 and is about a ten minute drive from central Bishop.

Courses and logistics

Courses mix single track and fast dirt roads in the Tungsten Hills and surrounding Eastern Sierra terrain. The 5k is a loop out of Millpond that is family and pet friendly. The 10k is described as slightly longer than 10k, with one aid station about 2.2 miles in and a steep hill plus some single track. The 33k and 50k leave Millpond, include steep and rocky single-track climbs of roughly 1,500 feet in key sections, and visit multiple aid stations offering fruit, salty snacks, and in some locations pancakes or quesadillas. Aid stations by distance: 5k none; 10k one at mile 2.2; 33k five (miles 3, 8, 12, 16, 18); 50k eight (miles 3, 8, 12, 16, 20.4, 24.6, 26.4, 28.6). Drop bags are allowed at specified aid stations for 50k runners. No crew or pacers are permitted and intermediate cutoffs at some aid stations will be enforced.
