Rainbow Ridge 20k and 50k
The event takes place near Rainbow, Oregon, at the Upper McKenzie community area and nearby trailheads. Two distances are offered:
- 50K
- 20K
The courses run on trail through old growth forest and volcanic terrain with multiple summit climbs that provide extensive views. The 50K accumulates over 8,000 feet of climbing across several major summits. A portion of race proceeds will be donated to Bridgeway House, a school and service provider for children with autism spectrum disorder and related family services in Lane County.
The 20K starts near the Upper McKenzie community center, includes approximately 2,600 feet of climbing to Kings Castle summit, and returns largely downhill to the finish.
The 50K begins with a shuttle to Olallie North trailhead; the shuttle ride takes about 15 to 18 minutes. Early race miles include a sustained climb of about 3,400 feet and a snack stop near mile 4.6 before the Horsepasture Mountain summit at 5,675 feet. The course includes an aid station network, a roughly 8 mile stretch with about 1,300 feet of gain, the Macduff summit at 5,060 feet, technical descents, an out-and-back creek drainage section with a small aid at the turnaround, and a final summit scramble before a steep descent into the finish area. Drop bags are allowed for 50K runners and will be delivered to aid stations at mile 18.3 and 24. Packet pickup is scheduled the Wednesday before the event at a Eugene address and race day pickup occurs at the community center. Postrace food at the community center includes pulled pork sandwiches, soup, and beer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
