Prospector Trail Races

The Prospector's 50k | 30k is a trail running event held in the area of Cooke City, Montana. This event takes place near mountains explored by prospectors starting in the 1860s. Participants run through terrain that features views of the surrounding mountain ranges and historical remnants of past mining activity. Observable landmarks along the routes include old homesteads, abandoned mining equipment, and numerous spur roads left behind by early explorers.

The race offers three distinct options for participants:

• 50k: A trail race covering 32 miles.
• 30k: A trail race covering 18.7 miles.
• Fully Cooked: A combined event covering 80k by completing both distances.

The event operates under a Special Use Permit from the Gardiner Ranger District. In instances where participation levels for the 18.7 mile distance are low, that race may be consolidated to take place on Saturday alongside the 32 mile participants.
