Event overview

The Preseli Beast is a series of off-road and fell-running races set in the Preseli hills, North Pembrokeshire, West Wales. The next event is scheduled for Saturday 9 May 2026, with entries opening in December 2025. All routes share the same start and finish and visit the Preselis highest point, Foel Cwmcerwyn. The races include a short course and longer routes, and an UltrabeasT course is under construction for 2026.

Race details and facilities

Distances offered include:

  • 10.8 miles (The Beast Bach) with about 1,700 ft of ascent.
  • Approx 24 miles (The Preseli Beast) with about 4,600 ft of ascent.

Routes mix trail, fell and wooded paths, some boggy sections and steep climbs. The Beast Bach is fully marked and has one water/aid station roughly at 5 miles. The Preseli Beast has water/feed stations approximately every 5 miles. The organiser provides course marking, marshals, category prizes, post-race food, hot drinks and a commemorative coaster; a buff is available to purchase on the day. An evening after-race gathering with music, food and a licensed bar is held locally.

Safety and kit

The event follows WFRA safety requirements. Competitors must demonstrate appropriate skills and experience, obey race officials, and carry required safety kit. For the Preseli Beast and UltrabeasT, required kit includes full waterproof top and bottoms, a map covering the route, compass, whistle, water container, gloves and a hat or buff. Beast Bach competitors may be exempt from carrying a map and compass depending on conditions. Use of GPS devices for navigation is prohibited.
