Routes and services

Distances:

  • 24 miles - approx 4,600 ft of ascent
  • 11 miles - approx 1,700 ft of uphill

Both routes share the same start and finish and overlap on the first 3-4 miles and final 6 miles. The main route passes parts of the Preselis, the wooded Gwaun valley, and Carn Ingli with views over Newport Bay. Water and feed stations are provided on the main race at roughly five-mile intervals. The smaller route has a single water/aid station at about 5 miles. The smaller race is fully waymarked; the main race may require navigation.

Safety, kit and prizes

The event follows WFRA safety expectations: competitors must be suitably experienced and carry required kit. For the main race and any ultra variant the organiser requires full waterproof top and bottoms, map, compass, whistle, water container, gloves and a hat or buff, though some items may be adjusted depending on weather. The smaller route may not require map and compass and the waterproof requirement may be reduced to a windproof top. GPS navigation is not permitted. Category prizes are awarded for first male and female in age bands 18-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Post-race food, drinks and a commemorative coaster are provided.
