Event overview

The Preseli Beast is a series of three off-road/fell races set in the Preseli hills in North Pembrokeshire, West Wales. The races share the same start and finish and visit the highest point of the Preselis, Foel Cwmcerwyn. The routes pass features such as the Gwaun valley and Carn Ingli and include a mixture of trail, fell and wooded paths, some boggy sections and steep climbs. The next event is scheduled for Saturday 9 May 2026 and entries open in December 2025.

  • Beast Bach: 10.8 miles, about 1,700 ft of ascent.
  • Preseli Beast: approx 24 miles, about 4,600 ft of ascent.
  • UltrabeasT: new course under construction for 2026.

Course and services: all routes are marked. The Beast Bach has one water/aid station at roughly 5 miles. The Preseli Beast has water/feed stations at about every 5 miles. Category prizes are awarded for 1st male and female in age groups 18-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Post-race provisions have included a coaster, food, hot drinks and cake, and there is an evening after-race event with music, a hot food buffet and a licensed bar.

Safety and kit: the event follows WFRA safety requirements. Competitors must have suitable skills and experience, follow race official instructions, and carry required kit. For the Preseli Beast and UltrabeasT this normally includes full waterproof top and bottoms, map, compass, whistle, water container, gloves and a hat or buff. For the Beast Bach the map and compass may not be mandatory and waterproof requirements may be reduced depending on conditions. GPS navigation is prohibited.
