Preseli Beast series in Maenclochog
The Preseli Beast is a set of off-road and fell running races held in the Preseli hills in North Pembrokeshire, West Wales. The events share the same start and finish at Maenclochog village green and are scheduled for 9 May 2026. Entries open in December 2025 and pre-entry is required.
The series includes three distances:
- Beast Bach : 10.8 miles, about 1,700 ft of ascent, fully marked course, one water station near 5 miles.
- Preseli Beast : approximately 24 off-road miles, about 4,600 ft of ascent, part-marked course with feed and water stations roughly every five miles.
- UltrabeasT : around 52 km / 32.3 miles, course for 2026 under development; climb reported at about 1,850 m.
Routes take in upland ridges and the highest Preseli summit Foel Cwmcerwyn, include sections across wooded valleys such as the Gwaun, offer coastal views from Carn Ingli, and contain varied terrain including trails, fell ground, boggy sections and steep climbs. Competitors must meet minimum age and safety requirements and carry designated kit depending on the race. Prize categories are awarded with at least one prize per category. Post-race provisions typically include food, tea and cake, a slate coaster, and the option to buy a buff. An evening social event with music and food is part of the event programme.
