OPSF 50|50 Trail Race : Owen-Putnam State Forest, Poland IN

OPSF 50|50 is an annual trail event held in Owen-Putnam State Forest near Poland, IN, organized by a non-profit trail running association. The event offers multiple race distances on a marked lollipop-shaped trail that begins and ends at the Horse Campground and includes a main out-and-back stick plus a loop section between two aid stations.

The trails are primarily single track and horse trails with some fire road sections, covering rolling hills and technically variable terrain. Specific course formats:

  • 50 miles
  • 50 kilometers
  • 14 miles
  • 10 kilometers

The 50-mile course repeats the loop section multiple times, the 50k runs fewer loops with a short bonus segment, and the 10K follows a single loop. Aid stations are provided but this is a cupless event; participants must carry the ability to hold 20 oz of water on their person at all times.

Logistics note that 14-mile and 10K runners use shuttle service between Horse Campground and a designated parking area at the Owen County Family YMCA, while 50M and 50K participants park at Horse Campground. Packet pick-up is handled off-site at a local brewery and same-day pick-up is available at the Start/Finish. Entrants registered by March 1 receive event swag; age group awards and finishers medals are given to finishers. Camping at Horse Campground is self-registered, limited to about eight sites and requires cash or check for the fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
