OPSF 50/50 Trail Race Challenge : Owen-Putnam State Forest
This trail running event takes place in Owen-Putnam State Forest, beginning at Horse Campground about one hour west of Indianapolis. The venue uses mostly single track and horse trails with a few sections of fire road. Trails are described as rugged and muddy in places.
Course layout uses a lollipop design for the longer distances: a stick segment from Start/Finish to Aid A and a loop from Aid A through Aid B and back to Aid A. The 10K is a single loop.
Distances:
- 10K: single loop
- 14 miles: starts at Horse Campground; 90% single track and horse trails
- 50K: two complete loops then a 2.8 mile short loop to the finish
- 50 miles: three complete loops then an 8 mile short loop to the finish
The 50K course has over 4,500 feet of elevation gain reported over 50 kilometers. The 50 mile route is composed of multiple full loops before a shorter finishing loop. Aid stations are positioned at the loop points identified as Aid A and Aid B. The event materials note that mud and rugged trail conditions are to be expected.
