Running the Ocean Floor in Nova Scotia

Not Since Moses takes place in Five Islands, Nova Scotia, located within the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark. This event offers a rare opportunity to run on the ocean floor of the Bay of Fundy during a narrow window of time when the tides are at their lowest. The terrain is naturally muddy and rough, requiring participants to navigate the exposed seabed.

The event features several participation options for different age groups and preferences:

  • 10 km race on the seabed.
  • 5 km race on the seabed.
  • Youth Run specifically for younger participants.
  • Fill Yer Boots distance option.

Because of the specific environmental conditions, the course is only accessible for a few hours on select days of the year. Participants are advised by the organizers to use old footwear due to the muddy conditions of the Bay. The event is organized by the Blue Nose Marathon Society and takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq. Local infrastructure in the Five Islands area includes various options for dining, accommodation, and regional attractions for those traveling to the event.
