Event overview
The New Moon Ultra is a night trail running event held at Rowallan Park, Holts Road, Mackay QLD, on Saturday 21 March 2026. The course uses sections of the Rowallan MTB trails under a private lease, with running on these trails prohibited outside this event. Maps will be released in the week of the event. Entry fees start from $25.95 and are subject to change.
Race format and distances
Each lap is 6 km and must be completed within one hour; laps repeat hourly. Runners must meet the one-hour cut-off to continue.
- 6 km - 1 lap (short course, juniors)
- 36 km - 6 laps (mid course)
- 72 km - 12 laps (long course)
Logistics and competitor requirements
Competitors check in and collect race bibs before the event. Runners are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration and must be self-sufficient on course. Lights are mandatory while on course; multiple headlamps and power banks are recommended. A snake bandage is required. Communal recovery areas are provided; a personal 3 m x 3 m gazebo space is available to book for an additional fee. Toilets are at the park entrance and parking is located at the park entrance.
Rules, safety and awards
Runners must wear the race bib on the front and return timing chips or incur a fee. If a runner withdraws, they must report to an event official. Trails may include remote single-track sections. Top three male and female finishers are awarded for each distance, with specified prize money for first to third places. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
