Course, support and rules
The route features extended high-alpine ridge running, two alpine peaks and multiple alpine lakes. Much of the course runs on non-system trails and logging roads; cell service is very limited and organizers provide GPX files and printable maps. The longest stretch without aid is 11.4 miles from the start to Michigan Ditch; a particularly long high-altitude section between Ruby Jewel and Clear Lake is about 10.0 miles and may take several hours.
Aid stations are stocked with drinks, gels, salty snacks, fruit, sandwiches and hot options at night; gluten-free and vegan alternatives are available on request. Drop bags are allowed at specified aid stations. Crewing and pacers are permitted only at designated aid locations and a park pass is required for crew access. Required gear includes a jacket, warm hat, gloves, whistle and at least 32 oz/1 L water capacity; a light is required for 100km. Race rules prohibit littering, off-trail shortcuts and dogs on course.
