The event is presented as an introduction to trail racing and as an option for first-time ultra athletes as well as experienced trail runners. The event often sells out before race weekend.
Race rules require participants to remain on the designated trail at all times; leaving the trail or cutting the course can result in disqualification. Pacers and outside assistance are prohibited for all distances. Participants must carry their own hydration systems since aid stations may not provide cups. Crews may only access designated rest stops and roadside stopping along the parkway is prohibited; violations can lead to runner disqualification.
Rucking divisions are split between traditional rucking with a backpack and a weighted vest division. Weight requirements vary by division and bodyweight. A mandatory weigh in is required before the race and weights may not be removed during the event. Random weight checks may occur and approved weights include steel ruck plates, weight vest blocks, and bumper plates.
Cutoff times include a 1:00 pm turnaround for the 50 mile at about 23 miles and a 7:00 pm cutoff to pass the start area near mile 46 to head back out on the final section. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
