Course and rules
The course uses primarily single-track trail with several road crossings and roughly 25 miles of maintained trail. Some less-traveled sections can be rugged; the 50-mile distance accumulates up to about 6,000 feet of elevation gain. The 50-mile is an out-and-back from Garrison Creek. Marathon runners run back toward Garrison Creek and must pass the finish line, complete a short additional loop of about 2.5 miles, then return to the finish to complete the full marathon distance.
Participants must remain on designated trails; going off-course onto roads can result in disqualification. Pacers and outside aid are not permitted. Runners must carry their own hydration devices. Crews may use designated rest stops but must not stop on the roadside of the Natchez Trace Parkway. Rucking division requires a weighted pack - over 150 lb: 20 lb, under 150 lb: 10 lb - with pre-race weigh-ins and on-course checks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
