Naked Bavarian

Naked Bavarian : Blue Marsh Lake, Leesport PA

The Naked Bavarian is a no or low swag trail ultramarathon held at Blue Marsh Lake near Leesport, PA and organized by Uber Endurance Sports. The event offers two distances and uses trails on the north side of the lake. The basic course is a lollipop: 6.5 miles out, a 7 mile loop, then 6.5 miles back. 40 mile entrants run the circuit twice and have access to a drop bag at mile 20.

The route is about 80% single track and 20% gravel roads. Trail conditions can vary by season and may include snow, ice or mud. Elevation gain is approximately 2,000 ft for the 20 mile and 4,000 ft for the 40 mile. Aid stations are located at miles 3.5, 6.5, 10, 13.5, 16.5, 20, 23.5, 26.5, 30, 33.5 and 36.5; water and Gatorade are provided and basic snacks are available. Runners are advised to carry a bottle and personal gels if they rely on them.

Timing is by old style tear off bibs; bibs must be visible on the front at all times. Runners must complete the distance they registered for. Entry fees are listed as $39 for the 20 mile and $49 for the 40 mile, with higher cash only prices on race day. Registration typically closes on March 1. Refunds are allowed up to 30 days before the event minus a small fee; after that entries are final but bib transfers can be approved up to one week before the race. Awards include a small German style finisher memento and top three overall plus age group awards. Post race food is provided and awards are handed out as runners finish.
