Naatsisaan Trail Races : overview
The Naatsisaan Trail Races take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Navajo Mountain High School in Navajo Mountain, Utah. The event program includes these distances:
- 50K (Naatsisaan Ultra)
- 10 miles (Naatsisaan 10-miler)
- 5K (Naatsisaan 5K)
The races are organized by the nonprofit NavajoYES in collaboration with Navajo Mountain High School and Navajo Parks & Rec. The event receives support from local organizations including Utah Navajo Health System, Naatsisaan Community School, the Naatsisaan Chapter, the Navajo Rangers and Navajo Nation EMS.
Course, services and logistics
The 10-miler and 50K start and finish at the high school and travel on dirt roads, old doubletrack and trails. The route arcs around Lost Mesa, climbs above Navajo Begay, passes the 2006 fire site and goes into Cha (beaver) Canyon. The 5K also begins and ends at the high school and follows local dirt roads.
Aid stations provide Honey Stinger energy gels, salty and sweet foods, high-carb items, fluids, medical support and communication. The course is marked with pin flags, cairns and some signage, and may be revised by organizers or local leaders. Runners are asked to bring appropriate rain gear, footwear and a hydration system because weather can change quickly in the high desert. Overall and age-group awards will be presented for the Ultra and the 10-miler, and all finishers will receive a finisher’s medal. Camping is available on the high school grounds with access to restrooms and showers. A community cook-out and live music take place at the high school in the afternoon, with a truck-or-treating activity near the finish area after the 5K.
