The MTC GLAISTIG is a single-day ultra running event and is Day 2 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end challenge. The race distance is 31.3 miles with approximately 2,793 ft of ascent and 3,138 ft of descent. This is the first edition of the event. All finishers receive a bespoke GLAISTIG medal; male and female champions receive trophies.

Route, entry and race rules

The route starts at The Traquair Arms Hotel in Innerleithen and finishes at the Travelodge Edinburgh Airport, Ratho Park. There are three intermediate checkpoints at roughly 9.6 miles, 16.6 miles and 25.1 miles. The organiser provides tracking devices with SOS functionality and GPX/maps are issued to entrants four weeks before the event.

Entry is limited to 20 competitors, with an additional allowance of 20 for SCOTIA competitors (maximum 40). Entry fees are quoted as £90 for standard entry and £155 for the race package that includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket; payments and deposits are non-refundable. A defer option is available for a fee.

The event enforces mandatory kit and safety rules. Competitors must carry kit such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the supplied route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, an emergency food pack and a basic first aid kit. The race has preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this requirement may be withdrawn. The event is cup-free.
