About the race
The MTC GLAISTIG is a single-day ultramarathon held on 28 May 2028 and forming Day 2 of the nine day MTC SCOTIA end to end challenge. The course runs from The Traquair Arms Hotel in Innerleithen to the Travelodge Edinburgh Airport, covering 31.3 miles with a reported ascent of 2,793 ft and descent of 3,138 ft. This is the first edition of the event.
Entries are limited to 20 race-only places with an additional allowance of 20 places for SCOTIA multi-day competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. All entries are non refundable; there is an option at booking to add a personal cancellation insurance policy or defer to the following year for a fee if done at least four weeks before the event. Entry fees are stated as £90 for the standard entry and £155 for the Plus Race Package, which includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket if purchased at least four weeks before the event.
The event enforces mandatory kit and safety measures. Competitors must carry a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid including blister treatment and an emergency food pack. URL provides a tracking device with SOS capability and GPS tracking is available to view during the race. Maps and GPX files are emailed to entrants four weeks before the event.
Time controls are based on a minimum average of 4.0 miles per hour with preset cut offs at intermediate checkpoints and the finish; falling below the required average may result in withdrawal. The race is cup free so competitors should bring a reusable cup. All finishers receive a bespoke GLAISTIG medal and male and female champions receive trophies which are still in design.
