Event overview
The MTC GLAISTIG is a single-day ultra running race of 31.3 miles. It is Day 2 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end challenge. The route starts at The Traquair Arms Hotel in Innerleithen and finishes at Travelodge Edinburgh Airport, Ratho Park, Edinburgh. Total ascent is listed as 2,793 ft and total descent as 3,138 ft. This is the first edition of the event. All finishers receive a bespoke GLAISTIG medal; male and female champions receive trophies (designs pending).
Logistics, safety and entry
Entries are limited to 20 race-only competitors with an additional allowance of 20 SCOTIA competitors, for a maximum of 40 starters. Entry fees are shown as £90 for the race and £155 for a Plus Race Package that includes an embroidered race shirt and hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. All deposits and payments are non-refundable, with an optional personal cancellation insurance available at checkout and a defer option available up to four weeks before the event for a fee.
The race enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; preset cut-off points are applied along the route and competitors who fall below the minimum may be withdrawn. Competitors must be aged 20 or over on the race day. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps as provided, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food, and a basic first aid kit. Organisers provide tracking devices with SOS capability and will supply mapping and GPX files to entrants four weeks before the race. The event is cup-free so runners should bring a reusable cup.
