MTC Glaistig

The MTC Glaistig is an ultra-marathon event covering a total distance of 31.3 miles. This single-day race takes place in Scotland, starting from Innerleithen at the Traquair Arms Hotel and concluding at the Travelodge Edinburgh Airport. The course features an approximate ascent of 2,793 feet and a descent of 3,138 feet.

This event serves as the second day of the "SCOTIA" challenge, a nine-day multi-stage event that traverses the length of Scotland. Because it is part of this larger series, individual race participants run alongside competitors who are completing the full end-to-end journey. The race is named after a figure from Scottish mythology, a ghost often depicted as a woman with goat-like features.

The event follows a strict time-restriction policy. To remain in the race, participants must maintain a minimum average pace of 4 mph. There are three timed checkpoints located along the route:

  • 9.6 miles: A703 Peebles
  • 16.6 miles: Annsmill, West Linton
  • 25.1 miles: Currie

This is a cup-free event, meaning participants are required to carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. The organizer provides a tracking device for each runner to monitor progress and for safety purposes. All finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and trophies are awarded to male and female champions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
