Mt. Taylor 50K
The Mt. Taylor 50K is a nonprofit, runner-built mountain ultramarathon held on September 26, 2026, on Mt. Taylor near Grants, New Mexico. The route starts at Rock Tank Shelter in the Cibola National Forest and climbs to the summit at 11,301 feet. Runners gain and descend about 7,000 feet over a course that includes singletrack, forest roads, and rugged mountain trail, with sections following the Continental Divide Trail.
Terrain on the course moves through pine and aspen stands, open alpine meadows, volcanic ridgelines, and timberline ridges. Aid stations are placed at key points along the route and are stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, sodas, and a variety of trail snacks. Runners are advised to monitor altitude and hydration throughout the race.
Logistics note that there is zero parking at the start area, with limited parking in the camping area before Rock Tank Shelter; high clearance vehicles can access more parking deeper in the meadow. There are some parking spots below Horace Road before road 547 turns to dirt, and carpooling options exist from the dirt lot by Horace Road. Bag drop is located at the Rock Tank Shelter Aid Station. Packet pick up is scheduled for September 23 and September 25.
The event supports Navajo YES, an organization focused on community wellness, lifelong fitness, and youth empowerment across Diné Bikeyah. Volunteers are used to operate the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
