The Mt. Tam Trail Run takes place at Mt. Tamalpais State Park, starting and finishing at Stinson Beach, CA. The event offers four distances and finishes with post-race food on the beach. The event has a total capacity of 500 runners. Parking is available within the Stinson Beach Day Use Area and is free of charge. Races are chip timed using disposable chips attached to the back of each bib.

Course, aid stations and policies

The course runs mainly on technical dirt trails and on non-technical fire roads and includes significant climbing to views on Mt. Tam and a return to the Headlands and beach. Aid stations provide a variety of food and drink options, electrolyte mixes, and basic first aid items; Gu Energy gels are restricted at certain aid stations on GGNRA property. This is a cupless event, so runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup. Dogs are allowed at Stinson Beach but are not permitted on Mt. Tam trails. An 8.5 hour time limit applies to the longest distances. Awards include overall and age-group prizes, a prize purse for the 50K top three finishers, custom finish medals, and pint glasses for 50K finishers.
