Event Details
The Mt. Tam Trail Run is scheduled for November 7, 2026. It takes place at Mt. Tamalpais State Park in Stinson Beach, California. The event is organized by Inside Trail Racing.
Distances and Course
The event offers four race distances:
- 10K (6.8 miles with 1,600 feet of elevation gain)
- Half Marathon (13.0 miles with 2,800 feet of elevation gain)
- 30K (18.5 miles with 3,900 feet of elevation gain)
- 50K (30.0 miles with 6,000 feet of elevation gain)
All races start at Stinson Beach and climb to views from Mt. Tamalpais. The routes return via trails in the Headlands. The course is primarily on technical dirt trails and non-technical fire roads. The hills are described as steep and long.
Race Logistics
The event has a participant capacity of 500 runners across all distances. Parking is available for free within the Stinson Beach Day Use Area. Carpooling is encouraged.
Early check-in and bib pickup is available on the Friday before the race at the San Francisco Running Company in Mill Valley. Race morning check-in is also available.
All races are professionally chip timed. The time limit for the 50K and 30K races is 8.5 hours; all runners must be off the course by 4:00 PM.
Awards and Amenities
A prize purse is offered for the top three male and female finishers in the 50K race. All finishers receive a custom medal. 50K finishers also receive a pint glass. Age group awards are given for the top three in various categories.
Post-race food includes a selection of sweet and salty snacks, fresh fruit, and pre-packaged options like chips and jerky.
Event Policies
This is a cupless event. Runners must carry their own water bottle or reusable cup; reusable cups are available for purchase at the event. Aid stations provide various foods and drinks but no paper cups.
Dogs are allowed at the beach but must be on a leash. Dogs are not permitted on the Mt. Tam trails, so runners may not run with them.
Drop bag services are not available. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted. Entry fees are non-refundable, with a limited credit option available if cancellation is made at least three weeks prior to the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
