Mt. Tam Trail Run

The Mt. Tam Trail Run is a trail running event at Mt. Tamalpais State Park, starting and finishing at Stinson Beach, CA. The event offers multiple distances that use technical dirt trails and non-technical fire roads, with substantial climbing. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted.

Distances:

  • 50K : 30.0 miles, 6,000 ft elevation gain
  • 30K : 18.5 miles, 3,900 ft elevation gain
  • Half Marathon : 13.0 miles, 2,800 ft elevation gain
  • 10K : 6.8 miles, 1,600 ft elevation gain

The event has a capacity of 500 runners across all distances. There is an 8.5 hour time limit for the 50K and 30K; all runners must meet the published course cutoffs. Courses are marked with colored ribbon roughly every 200 meters; blue ribbons indicate wrong way. Turn signs and ground markings are used at complex intersections.

Aid stations provide a variety of foods and beverages, including electrolytes, salty and sweet snacks, and seasonal fruit. Gu Energy gels are restricted at certain aid locations within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and must be used and discarded only at specified aid stations. This is a cupless event; runners are responsible for carrying their own water container. Drop bag services are not available.

Timing is chip based using disposable chips attached to the bib. Post-race food and awards include custom medals for all finishers, a pint glass for 50K finishers, age-group medals, and a prize purse for top 3 men and women in the 50K.
