Most of the route uses technical dirt singletrack and non-technical fire roads. Hiking poles are permitted. Courses are marked with colored ribbons roughly every 200 meters and with laminated signs or ground markings at complicated sections; blue ribbons indicate wrong way.

Aid stations offer a variety of food and beverages and basic first aid items. This is a cupless event, so runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup; reusable cups will be available for purchase at the event. Gu energy gel availability is restricted in Golden Gate National Recreation Area sections. All races are chip timed using disposable chips attached to the back of each bib.

All finishers receive a custom medal; 50K finishers additionally receive a pint glass. Age-group and overall awards are presented, and volunteers receive a race T-shirt, food, and credit toward future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
