Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race

Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race offers two trail ultrarunning options on the historic routes around Mt. Wilson in the Angeles National Forest. The event starts and finishes at the summit area near Mt. Wilson Skyline Park, about 45 minutes from Los Angeles. The course is entirely on trail with technical single track, rocky sections, steep climbs, and fast descents through pine forest and chaparral.

Distances available:

  • 50K Ultra: 31 miles, 7,000 ft elevation gain, 10 hour cutoff
  • 25K Challenge: 15.5 miles, 3,800 ft elevation gain, 5 hour cutoff

The course is marked with ribbons and signs. Fully stocked aid stations appear approximately every 5-7 miles; the 50K has five aid stations and the 25K has two. Rules include no drop bags, no pacers, and mandatory adherence to aid station cutoff times. Trekking poles are permitted and GPS tracks on a phone or watch are recommended. Runners are advised to carry extra water between Josephine Saddle and RedBox.

Entry fees are listed with an early bird rate through March 31, 2026, registration closing on September 1, 2026 or when capacity is reached. All entry fees are non-refundable and transfers or deferrals are not allowed. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Orange Curtain Run in Orange County, California offers a range of distance and timed events from 10K to 100K on mixed pavement and bike path surfaces. The event is scheduled for June 19 and 20, 2026 and includes a certified marathon.
