Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race
Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race is an ultra trail event in the Angeles National Forest that starts and finishes at the summit of Mt. Wilson. The event offers two distance options over historic mountain trails and rugged terrain.
- 50K: 31 miles, 7,000 ft elevation gain, five aid stations
- 25K: 15.5 miles, 3,800 ft elevation gain, two aid stations
The course is entirely trail running with technical single track, rocky sections, steep climbs, and fast descents through pine forest and chaparral. Peak elevation reaches about 5,800 ft. The route is marked with ribbons and signs, and aid stations are fully stocked approximately every 5 to 7 miles.
Race operations note enforced aid station cutoff times and a final finish cutoff for each distance. Race rules prohibit drop bags and pacers; trekking poles are permitted and recommended. Participants are advised to carry extra water between Josephine Saddle and Red Box and to use GPS tracks on a phone or watch.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Registration fees, early bird pricing deadlines, and the final registration close date are published; all entry fees are non-refundable and transfers or deferrals are not allowed. Parking is limited and an Adventure Pass must be displayed in the vehicle windshield. Crew access is limited to the start/finish and Red Box Picnic Area aid stations.
