MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra
The MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event at Loudy Simpson Park in Craig, Colorado, held along the Yampa River. The event uses the Backyard Ultra format in which runners repeat a measured loop until only one runner remains.
Course and format details:
- 4.167 miles per loop for the Backyard Ultra
- 4.167 miles single loop for the Citizens Race
The loop is primarily dirt trail with a small amount of pavement. Runners pass shaded tree-lined sections, riverside trail, several small bridges, and open park trail areas. The start/finish area at Loudy Simpson Park serves as the main aid station and runner camp where participants can set up gear, access food and hydration, and rest between loops.
Race rules follow the traditional Backyard Ultra structure: runners must be in the starting corral when the start signal sounds, complete each 4.167-mile loop within the hour, and are eliminated if they fail to start or finish a loop within the time limit. The final runner must complete one more loop alone to be declared the winner. Crew access is allowed in designated areas and no outside assistance is permitted on course unless stated otherwise. Headlamps or handheld lights are required after dark. Basic first aid and medical support are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
