MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra

The event takes place at Loudy Simpson Park in Craig, Colorado, along the banks of the Yampa River. It follows the Backyard Ultra format in which runners complete a 4.167 mile loop every hour, on the hour, and continue until only one runner remains. Runners must be in the starting corral at the start signal and must finish each loop within the one-hour time limit; failure to meet either condition results in elimination. The final remaining runner must complete one additional loop to be declared the winner.

A Citizens Race offers a single-loop option on the same marked course through the park. The single loop follows riverside trail, shaded tree-lined sections, several small bridges, and open park trail segments, with predominantly dirt trail and a small amount of pavement.

The start/finish area and main aid station are located at Loudy Simpson Park near the ice arena and serve as the runner camp between loops. Participants have access to food, hydration, a rest area between loops, crew access in designated areas, and basic first aid. Headlamps or handheld lights are required for night running. Medical support will be available, and runners participate at their own risk.
