MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra
The MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held at Loudy Simpson Park in Craig, Colorado along the banks of the Yampa River. The main race uses the Backyard Ultra format: participants repeat a 4.167 mile loop, with a new loop beginning every hour, until only one runner remains.
The course is primarily dirt trail with a small amount of pavement. Runners pass shaded, tree-lined sections, riverside trail, several small bridges, and open park trail areas. The start and finish area is located near the ice arena and serves as the main aid station and runner camp where participants may set up personal gear.
Support at the start and finish includes food, hydration, a rest area between loops, crew access in designated areas, and basic first aid. Runners are responsible for their own lighting after dark and must carry a headlamp or handheld light for night hours. Medical support will be available, but runners participate at their own risk.
Key race rules state that runners must be in the starting corral when the bell or start signal sounds and must complete each loop within the one-hour limit. A runner is eliminated if they miss the start or fail to complete the loop within the hour. The final remaining runner must complete one more loop alone to be declared the winner.
