MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra - Loudy Simpson Park, Craig, Colorado
The MOCO Trails Wild West Backyard Ultra is an endurance event scheduled for August 15, 2026, at Loudy Simpson Park in Craig, Colorado along the Yampa River. The main event follows the Backyard Ultra format: runners complete a 4.167 mile loop each hour until only one runner remains.
In the Backyard Ultra format, runners must be in the starting area when the start signal sounds and must complete each loop within the one-hour limit. If a runner misses the start or does not finish a loop within the hour, they are eliminated. The final runner completes one more loop alone to be declared the winner.
A separate Citizens Race offers a single-loop option of the same course for runners, walkers, and community members who want to experience the route without repeating loops.
The course runs through Loudy Simpson Park along the Yampa River. The surface is primarily dirt trail with a small amount of pavement. Runners pass shaded tree-lined sections, riverside trail, several small bridges, and open park trail sections. The start/finish area near the ice arena serves as the main aid station and runner camp where participants can set up gear.
Support includes food, hydration, a rest area, crew access in designated zones, and basic first aid. Headlamps or handheld lights are required after dark. Registration includes an official race bib, a race T-shirt, aid station access, and post-race refreshments. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
